• Thermo-siphon:

In thermo-siphon water heaters, there is no pump to push the air around. Thus, this function performed merely by the solar energy. The main problem of this system is that the water freezes in cooled weather (such as winter) because the apparatus is installed out side in under-pressure solar water heaters, which have a closed course for the liquid to circulate, a pump is used. Antifreeze is used for water not to freeze.
Pumping under pressure:
In areas where there is a big difference between the temperature of day and night, this system is less efficient. The advantage of the system is that reserve container can be indoor or inside the boiling room.

• Gravity-return:

In solar water heaters with gravity-return, the water absorbs the energy of the sun by a closed system. Then, a heat transformer boils the water. As long as the solar heat is enough, this system works. Otherwise, the pump stops and the water return into the container as to gravity.

• The required space on the roof for a solar water heater has to be considered.
